Description:

Wytze Vlietstra was born in Amsterdam in November 1987, and obtained both his BSc. in Biomedical Sciences and MSc. in Medical Informatics at the University of Amsterdam.

For his master thesis research he joined the Biosemantics groups at the Erasmus MC and the LUMC. For his thesis he researched algorithms to perform knowledge discovery with in a graph database. His master thesis was titled “Applying concept networks for Knowledge Discovery”, and was defended in February 2014.

From April 2014 to July 2015 he worked at the Knowledge Representation and Reasoning group at the Free University of Amsterdam to work on the contextualization of patient data in knowledge networks for the EU FP7 EURECA project.

In July 2015 he returned to the Biosemantics group to work on the NWO ODEX project and his PhD. The topic of his PhD will investigate methods to practically use knowledge networks in biomedical practice and research, as well as to their large scale structures and the effects of integration of additional data. His main research interests are biomedical knowledge representation and reasoning over knowledge networks.
